Electronics Installation

Need to replace your boat's old stereo? Want to upgrade your bilge pump? This one-day workshop will provide you with an overview of basic DC electrical systems so you can safely install or replace electronics. Learn how to select wire sizes, strip wires, make effective crimps and wire a panel within industry standards.

Cost: $175 (annual fund members) / $195 (non-members)
Register via fax or mail.

Tuesday-Friday, July 6-9
8:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
Boat "CSI"

In this investigative course students will evaluate a 24' Brownell Bass Boat from stem to stern looking for evidence of rot, corrosion, fractures, joint failures and systems issues. We'll identify the forensic problems, discuss how they could be fixed and -- most importantly -- how they could have been prevented. This course is a broad view of marine surveying, with the focus primarily on wooden displacement powerboats, but the investigative tactics are applicable to many boats. Follow up this four-day workshop with "Intro to Wooden Boat Restoration" the following week to learn how to repair the damage our survey discovers.

Cost: $780 (annual fund members) / $702 (non-members)
Register via fax or mail.

Tuesday-Friday, July 13-16
8:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m.
Intro to Wooden Boat Resoration

Many sailors' backyards and basements hide old, decaying wooden boats awaiting restorations. Get started on yours with this four-day introductory workshop intended to help you develop a plan for your boat and the handskills necessary to complete it. Using the same 24' Brownell Bass Boat assessed in the Boat "CSI" course, students will begin the restoration process to eliminate rotted wood and structural issues. Using both classroom lectures and woodworking tools and machines, students will learn to work with different species of wood plus glues and fasteners. You'll learn to read boat plans, pick up some new nomenclature and experiment with many different woodworking tools.

Cost: $780 (annual fund members) / $702 (non-members)
Register via fax or mail.

Friday, July 30
8:30 a.m to 4:00 p.m.

Gelcoat Repairs

Learn how to repair the dents, dings and scratches on your boat's hull. We'll help you evaluate whether the damage is superficial or more invasive, and then we'll teach you to decide what kind of repair your hull needs. This one-day workshop starts in the classroom with an overview of composite methods and materials, and then moves into the shop where you'll develop hand-skills from scarfing to buffing.

Cost: $175 (annual fund members) / $195 (non-members)
Register via fax or mail.
