Take advantage of a tax write-off through your boat donation
The Landing School occasionally accepts donations of boats that can be used in our curriculum or can be resold to raise money for The School. All donated boats must undergo an inspection and survey by school staff to determine whether they are good candidates for either of these uses. Many boats will not be accepted.
A donated boat is accepted for one or more of the following purposes:
- For immediate resale with the proceeds supporting The Landing School programs;
- For resale after improvements and/or renovations have been accomplished; and/or
- For educational use in the Marine Systems Program, in which case the boat must meet the curriculum requirements.
As with any donated property to a nonprofit organization, certain IRS rules must be followed by both the donor and the school. It is important that a potential boat donor consult with a tax advisor or attorney prior to the donation.
